I covered Jordan & Kyle’s wedding reception and it was a treat. For the first time, I didn’t have to photograph any formal group photos. I still did some casual group photos during the reception but I didn’t have to go off a list, so it was much easier. I still think that formal family photos are important because they’re nice keepsakes for the family. I would just rather be shooting moments because that’s what I enjoy the most.

I met Jordan & Kyle at their hotel and then we hoped on a trolley and headed over to Oskar Blues. The taproom was dark so it was tricky to capture the toasts and conversations between guests. Luckily my cameras can handle low light pretty well. I used a flash for most of the dance photos. There was a lot of dancing which made my heart happy. I love shooting people dancing, especially after they’ve had a few drinks. All of their inhibitions are gone and everyone is relaxed, having a good time, and could care less that I’m pointing a camera at them from only a few feet away. The moments become natural and fun to capture.

Also, I was pleased to see Kyle out on the dance floor shaking it up. Often times, the grooms don’t care for dancing so they stay tucked away in a corner talking to their buddies instead of cutting a rug. I was happy to capture all of the action as it made for a fun night.
