Lily & Jared were married at the beautiful Della Terra located inside Estes Park, Colorado. I started documenting moments of Jared and the guys in a small theatre room as my partner took photos of the girls getting ready. As I stepped inside, I noticed they were playing the tv show; “New Girl.” It was projected onto a screen behind the guys. I was able to capture a couple of fun moments of the guys getting ready with the actors that were on screen, glancing down towards them. It looked as if they were watching them. I always look for humorous moments that help tell the story. The ceremony location was located at a small amphitheater outside near the venue. The sunlight was very sp0tty which meant that it was filtering through the trees casting small shadows everywhere. This was a challenge when the processional started taking place. In this situation, I exposed my camera for the highlights so I made sure not to over-expose my images. It’s easier to brighten an image later vs. darkening one. I’m was working in full manual mode at the time so I could dial in my exact camera settings. The other problem that occurred was the videographer stood in front of the couple only 6-8 ft away for the whole ceremony! That meant that I couldn’t get any clean shots of the bride and groom from the front because the videographer was in the way! I had to improvise and move behind the ceremony while trying to remain quiet so I didn’t disrupt the ceremony. I was able to plant my feet between two groomsmen to get a view from the bride’s perspective. If this was inside a small church, I probably wouldn’t have been able to do this as there wouldn’t be enough room. Thank goodness for outdoor ceremonies in Colorado! There were some touching speeches made after dinner, followed by some fun dancing. I was glad that the dance floor remained full for the rest of the evening and the bride and groom danced a lot as well. Overall, I was able to capture a lot of great moments that the bride and groom will cherish for the rest of their married lives.
